Sales Careers at Purdue
Training, Training & Training
Why are we one of the most successful sales forces in the pharmaceutical industry? One of the answers is "Training." We don’t stop with hiring experienced pharmaceutical sales representatives. If our colleagues are not learning, they are not growing as professionals. As a new hire, and throughout a career at Purdue, individuals can expect to receive structured, highly focused, intensive training.
New hires can expect to spend approximately 15 days in a classroom in the first year of employment. The initial training session, which includes selling skills, product knowledge, and computer training, is followed up with a comprehensive 26-week development program monitored by the District Manager. When Professional Representatives reach 18 months of service, they may participate in a Phase II Selling and Presentation Skills program, and at 24 months they enter a Phase III Business Skills program. We also offer a Phase IV training program for Sales Representatives with five years or more of tenure. The Phase II through IV programs are one week in length and are conducted at the home office. This represents just a small part of training. You can expect training sessions at District, Regional, and National meetings, not to mention the ongoing training received from District Field Trainers, and Managers, as well as continuous learning through unique modules on Intranet websites.
Purdue focuses on developing talent for the future needs of the organization. Programs to develop a Sales Representative’s managerial skills present opportunities for individuals to advance in positions in the field or the home office.
